A day of international documentary films and expert panelists discussing the issues of the United Nations
Sunday, January 11, 2015 | 11am-9pm | Sie Film Center (2510 E. Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80205)
DENVER, CO, January 6, 2015– The United Nations Association of Denver, in partnership with the Denver Film Society, is bringing the UNAFF Traveling Film Festival to Denver for the first time! This year’s festival theme is “Bridging the Gap” and showcases films on women’s issues, global health, humanitarian and environmental issues, and will feature a panel discussion after each film. Women’s Global Empowerment Fund founder Karen Sugar will be a post-screening panelist.
“Conceived in 1998 at Stanford University by film critic and educator Jasmina Bojic in conjunction with the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF) screens documentaries by international filmmakers dealing with topics such as human rights, environmental themes, women’s issues, children, refugee protection, homelessness, racism, disease control, universal education, war and peace. By bringing together filmmakers, the academic community and the general public, UNAFF offers a unique opportunity for creative exchange and education among groups and individuals often separated by geography, ethnicity and economic constraints.”
Karen Sugar will be featured as a panelist after the 7pm The Pad Piper, the story of a grassroots innovator from India and how his low-cost sanitary-pad making machine is benefiting women across India. Joining Karen will be Duk County filmmaker, Jordan Campbell.
Tickets available through the Sie FilmCenter – $10 per film/$40 festival pass ($30 for UNA members)
